ClassTrackr is a mobile application designed specifically for students at Sheridan College to provide real-time notifications about their class statuses.
Role: Design, User Research & Testing
Tools: Figjam, Figma
Timeline: 4 Weeks
ClassTrackr enhances college communication by providing real-time updates on class schedules. Identifying key challenges in class management, the app ensures students receive instant notifications for rescheduled or cancelled classes, improving schedule management and reducing confusion.
To develop a mobile application that provides students with immediate updates on class rescheduling and cancellations.
To understand the problem of ineffective class rescheduling and cancellation notifications, I conducted secondary research and interviews. Secondary research highlighted common issues in college communication systems, such as delays and lack of real-time updates.
To gain deeper insights, I interviewed four students. They shared frustrations about not checking slate announcements promptly, often driving to campus in adverse weather conditions only to find their classes were canceled, wasting time and effort. This primary research underscored the need for a more immediate and reliable notification system.
What do people want?
The research revealed significant gaps in the current class notification system, leading to inefficiencies and frustrations among students. They desire real-time updates and immediate notifications to avoid unnecessary trips and better manage their schedules. These findings underscore the need for a mobile solution that delivers timely and reliable class status updates, enhancing the overall student experience.
During user testing of the app, a group of 5 students evaluated the functionality and effectiveness of the application and the class cancellation widget.
What did the users say?
Overall, students appreciated the app's efficiency and real-time updates, with unanimous preference for the most effective cancellation widget. However, they suggested improvements for better handling login problems.
This designing exercise made me realize how much thought goes into each design decision, from the login flow to the designing of a widget. Each decision needs to be well thought out and executed.
To develop this app further I would like to detail the settings and profile wireframes, to get a better understanding of the personalisation features of the app for the user.
Thanks.
